WHAT:Now in its third year mentoring hundreds of Bay Area youth in STEM education, the Learning Without Limits program, sponsored by ABD and the Golden State Warriors, will celebrate Rebuilding Together Peninsula’s National Rebuilding Day with hands-on clean up and much needed improvement to the Peninsula Family Service Midway Child Development Center. Two-dozen youth from the Boys & Girls Club of the Peninsula will learn hands-on building skills while they help with much needed improvements to the facility. 50 employees from ABD will also volunteer along with select building contractors. Warriors hype man Franco Finn will emcee the opening of the event with members of the Warriors Dance Team supporting the tip off.
WHERE:Peninsula Family Service, 45 Midway Drive, Daly City
WHEN:Saturday, April 30, from 8 am to 3 pm. Program opens at 8.30, Repair work begins at 8.45 with a lunch break from 12-1 pm.
WHY:The facility is outdated and the owner (Bayshore Elementary School District) has limited funds to keep up with necessary repairs. Hands-on help from ABD, the Golden State Warriors, Rebuilding Together Peninsula and the Boys and Girls club of the Peninsula will mean a vast improvement to the largest public housing facility in San Mateo County, including critical health and safety upgrades to the child care facility. ABD and the Warriors are passionate about the Learning Without Limits program’s mission of providing Bay Area youth with engaging educational experiences not found in the typical classroom. Bringing youth from the Boys and Girls Club to participate in National Rebuilding Day will educate them on the importance of community involvement and giving back, and will allow them to experience the self-satisfaction that comes from helping those who are less fortunate.
