As we head into the second week of “Shelter in Place” we wanted to send a note of thanks to each of our clients during this time as we each face our current norm. COVID-19 has raised several questions related to how companies manage pandemic-related risk and we’re seeing questions from you on how your policies will respond. From workers’ compensation and cyber risk to complex property disruptions – honestly, this is new to everyone.
At ABD, we’re here to guide you. We won’t claim to be the authority on COVID-19. We’re the authority on insurance – we’re here to review your policies line by line, on a case-by-case basis, speak directly with your carriers, and pay attention to decisions that are being made daily, hourly even, surrounding COVID-19.
What we’re watching
“Flattening the curve” has resulted in the largest “work-from-home” deployment in history. So, we’re keeping a close eye on how specific policies respond – workers’ compensation, general liability, cyber liability, property and business interruption. Specifically, how will employers monitor healthy environments for employees? Will policies treat COVID-19 differently than a typical excluded virus or bacteria? Will COVID-19 (or future pandemics) ever be allowed as a work-related condition?
The answers to these questions are not easy. We continue to get updates from insurance carriers and learn about changes in legislation daily. We will leverage this information as we evaluate your unique situation and we’ll share as we learn, digestible versions of important information for you to stay informed, share with your team, and continue your operations.
As always, The ABD Team is here for you. One of our core principles is ‘in it together’ and we are indeed, in this together. Don’t hesitate to reach out to your team directly, but we encourage you to check back here often. We’ll post blogs authored by ABDers, links and videos to resources we’ve found helpful, and digestible overviews of articles from authorities on this everchanging subject.
Thank you all and stay healthy,
Rod Sockolov and Tom Whitenight
