Nabokov's Testimony

(interview between Captain Bitterman and Serge Nabokov)

Nabokov: "The only reason I'm talking to you is 'cause you're Treater's friend. This business is like one big family. You look out for each other. Oh, and for the record, I'm an accountant. Just like Treater."

Bitterman: "Right. As for your one big family, it might interest you to know you were the first person Treater suspected of kidnapping and killing his partner."

Nabokov: "Me? That's ridiculous. If I wanted to kill someone it would be Treater. It's Treater who's interfering with my northern territory, not some partner from Los Angeles. If anything, Post's death makes Treater stronger. He has more money, more contacts and no one to block his moves. The two of them argued a lot, which was good for me.

"Look, I'm sorry Post is dead. I just heard about it this morning. I was in Hawaii all last week. Flew in last night. I'll show you my ticket if you want. No search warrant needed."
