It began as a Missing Persons case. A sports bookie, Arnold Post, and his female assistant had seemingly disappeared on their way from Taos to Santa Fe. You talk to Post's sister, then quickly locate the missing two, who had simply neglected to tell anyone of their whereabouts. That same night, however, Arnold Post is kidnapped.

Post's business partner, Glen Treater, arrives from Taos with the ransom. He objects to police involvement, but you take over anyway, enlisting the help of John Night Sky, a Native American officer.

At the ransom drop, you and Night Sky set a trap. But your plan is foiled when the kidnapper calls your cell phone number and discovers that it's you at the drop site and not Treater.

The next afternoon, Post's body is discovered by a shepherd in a lonely arroyo. You and John are blamed for his death.
